Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen

Colin's new thing is to take his pacifier and run it along his crib when he wakes up in the morning and in the night. It reminds me of the man in jail running his tin can along the bars in the jail. It is pretty funny. He is also really saying his "Ba's" and "Da's". Yesterday while driving I heard him say "DA DA" I don't think he knew what he was saying, but still pretty exciting.

Colin is no longer the youngest Hughes Baby. Allan and Korrina had a little girl early this morning, they named her Haylee Mae. Everyone is doing well.

Colin and Mr and Mrs Claus!

(This is an unusual site, so I thought I would capture it!)

Colin had his 6 month appointment on Friday. He did really well. He is 20 lbs and 29" long!!! Very tall for his age. He also showed off for the doctor and sat up for a long time while there with no assistance. He got 4 shots and just cried for a second. I was very proud of him.

Yesterday Colin met Santa and Mrs Claus for the first time. He just laughed at them just like he would anyone esle, they didn't scare him at all. It was a long day at Hughes' Christmas. Colin had to wake up from a nap to go and Santa came right in the middle of his second nap.

FOOD!!!

Well, we are trying new foods with Colin. We started with the rice, now we are on to fruits and veggies. He loves all the fruit but the veggies have to be mixed with his rice, until now! Carrots are a new favorite. Colin finished the whole bottle tonight, which is a first for the veggies. He is also sitting up a lot more and not so flopsy. We go for his 6 month appointment on Friday. My predictions are as follows: 28" long and 22lbs.

Matt just headed out for the rest of the week. He is going to be all over the Midwest for the next 4 days. We are hoping that he misses the big ice storm that is heading our way.

Getting Ready for Christmas

Hello everyone. Today has been a sad day - I feel like I have been glued to the tv watching the news on the the shooting at the mall in Omaha. It is certainly a little close to home, so to get my mind off of that, I gave Colin his first haircut...then made Savannah mad by putting reindeer ears on her. I laughed for a long time. She wouldn't put her head up, so this was the best shot I got. The other picture is of Colin's friend Ellie from Denver. Ellie is just of a year and loved Colin's toys and Colin loved watching Ellie.

Johny Jump Up

Colin got a new toy...well Matt got a new toy. Matt has been waiting for the day that Colin was big enough to get in a Johny Jump Up. I found one this week and so we thought we would try it out. A little pre- Christmas gift to both of my boys. Although Matt was really excited to put it up and see Colin in it, you can see that the excitement for Matt wore off pretty quickly as I caught him taking a nap on the doorway.

Thanksgiving

This Thanksgiving we headed towards Minnesota on Wednesday. We ran into a snow storm in Des Moines and ended up staying there. That afternoon we received a sad call, Matt's grandma had passed away. So Thursday morning we headed toward Wisconsin. This is the grandma that we had just went to see in October. We are so glad that she was able to meet Colin and Matt got to see her just a month ago. Great Grandma Stellmacher was 91 years old and had a wonderful life and it was obvious to me that she was loved by so many. She will be missed greatly!
So here are a couple of pictures from the weekend. Colin was sure glad to get home - back to his normal routine today....lots of naps and not so many new faces to check out.

Excer-Saucer

Colin really enjoys his excer-saucer. He loves standing up now. The toys on it keep him really entertained. This morning I caught him trying to advance himself and reading a book. He is such a self starter.

And he sleeps

I am posting this right after Colin went to sleep tonight...he didn't even wake up to the flash!

This weekend was nice and relaxing. We were all able to stay home the entire weekend. Friday night I went to a Creighton basketball game and Matt stayed home with Colin. Saturday we just hung out all day and Matt cleaned the garage because we got a new shed. We finally have our garage back. Sunday Matt went hunting in the morning and didn't return home until late Sunday afternoon. I was a little nervous because his hunting trips usually are done before noon. Come to find out he shot a deer and the darn thing got away!!!! Matt spent the majority of the day following a blood trail of this deer. Unfortunately the deer won this game of hide and seek. Sunday night Matt and I went to the John Mellencamp concert in Omaha. I am a big fan, Matt is not. He is learning to appreciate the Coug a little more. We sat in the 2nd row...very close to him. Maybe too close. This week Matt is out of town with work, but the good news is that we don't have anything planned this weekend either. I assume Matt will try to find himself another deer.

This is a picture of Mellencamp from my phone.

Joe and Leanne's Wedding

A good time was had by all this weekend at Joe and Leanne's wedding. Leanne looked amazing! The trip to Minneapolis went well. Colin slept the majority of the drive. Grandma and Grandpa Steele really tired him out this weekend.

Happy Halloween

Here are some photos from Halloween - Colin was a turtle!
Abby was a bee, Emma was Dorthy, Lauren was a Husker cheerleader, and Logan was a cow. You can see Colin is eyeing Abby's sucker very closely.

Wisconsin

This past weekend the family went to Fair Water, WI to visit Matt's extended family. Matt's parents were also there for a wedding, so it worked out well. Grandma and Grandpa Steele could not believe how Colin had changed since the last time they had seen him. We get to see them again this weekend as we travel to Minnesota for the wedding of Leanne and Joe. Leanne and Joe met through me - I would say! Leanne went to college with me and Joe was Matt's roommate at St. John's. We are all really excited about the weekend.

No one believes us that Savannah totally ignores Colin. This is proof. Savannah is trying to sit on Matt's lap and doesn't realize she is setting on Colin. Colin did just "find" Savannah the other day. He now follows her around the room with his eyes and reaches for her when she is close.

4 Month Appointment

Today Colin went for his 4 month appointment, this meant 4 shots! I was more sad about the shots than Colin. He only cried for about 30 seconds once he realized they were happening. We asked the Dr about the theories that have been in the media in regards to the vaccinations causing autism and she said if that were the case, the FDA wouldn't allow the vaccinations to occur. So we asked her why she thinks there are so many more cases of autism now and she said, "diagnosis". Pretty much she was saying that 15 years ago if a child was different, they were sent away. Now they are living with their parents and families and people are wanting diagnoses for their children. So I guess I am going to ignore all of the speculations for the time being. Anyway, Colin weighed in at 17.5 lbs and 26 3/4 inches long. So I was .5 pounds off and a 1/4 of an inch, pretty close!

Hope everyone has a great week. This weekend we are going to Wisconsin to see Matt's Grandma Stellmacher and also Matt's parents will be there. Quick trip, but we are all excited to see everyone.

Arbor Day Lodge

This past weekend the Hughes family all went to the Arbor Day Lodge in Nebraska City. We spent the night there on Friday night and then Saturday morning walked the trails around the park and even went to the pumpkin patch. Colin found a great pumpkin. He also held on to an ear of corn in support of the Cornhuskers - I guess they need more than Tom Osborne and Colin on their side.

Tried Some Cereal

Yesterday Colin had his first "real" food. He had some rice cereal for the first time yesterday morning. Matt and I both feed him and he actually really enjoyed it. He continues to get bigger and bigger. We go for his 4 month appointment on Monday, so we will have a weight and length for everyone after that. My guess is 18lbs and 27" long.

Saturday

Today Colin and I went to meet our little cousin Molly. She is such a sweetheart. It was amazing to see her and realize that Colin was that size not very long ago. The time has gone by so quickly. Then we went to cousin Colette's house to see Layla's puppy's one last time before they go to their new homes. Colin didn't pay much attention to them, they were interested in him though. There is one puppy left if anyone is interested!

Ready for Fall

Today Matt left for his annual hunting trip with Nick O'Connell. He is planning on working in South Dakota today and tomorrow and then heading to North Dakota tomorrow afternoon. So Colin and I are just relaxing this weekend. No big plans around here. Savannah is going to the groomer on Saturday...I am excited about that because she has found something dead to roll in outside. I figure since Dad is enjoying himself with Nick and theDucks, Colin and I will enjoy ourselves at the mall. The weather is changing and so is Colin's wardrobe!
Colin wanted to go on the hunting trip too!

ZOO Trip

Oh Boy what a day at the zoo. Unfortunately, it was a little chilly in the morning when we were there, but the good part was that there wasn't hardly anyone around. Our biggest excitement was the gorilla. He was hilarious. Also, the orangutan's. There was a group of high school boys there and one kid threw a skittle at the orangutan (you can see her reaching through the fence for the candy) it was pretty funny to watch her analyze it before she ate it.

Roll Over

Last night Colin rolled over from his stomach to his back twice! He still isn't very active on his back which is ok with us. We enjoy his lack of mobility right now. This video is of him right before the roll! By the way, while watching this video on the computer, Colin is watching himself and laughing....he is a lot like his father =)
Today we are going to the zoo for the first time...stay tuned for some great pictures.

Glenwood Homecoming Weekend

Marky and Grace came to meet Colin this weekend. They gave him a big green chair. I didn't think he would be able to use it for a while, but he has been in it for most of the day. He can see the fan from there and watch mom and dad, he really has the best of both worlds in the Big Green Chair.

My parents were chosen as this years Grand Marshall's of the Glenwood Homecoming Parade - pretty big honor for Glenwoodians.

Here is a little more of Colin talking!

Sportsman Expo

Colin in his big blue chair!
Baby LUCA!

This weekend was the first annual Steele Sportsman Expo. The guys had hunting events all day while the girls ate all day =) Both groups had a lot of fun. Matt built a great bonfire and both Colin and Savannah loved all the attention. My pictures aren't the best, so check out the Ratcliff's site, they have more pictures of the events http://www.theratcliffs.blogspot.com/. Events included the hatchet throw, archery, and trap shooting.

Husker Game Day?

Colin is either ready for Husker Game Day or his first interview with Target

Prepping for his trip to Wisconsin in October.
